Woodshop class began TODAY! For the next few months, we’ll have access to an entire range of tools, a warm workspace, and a group of craftsmen to guide us in our woodworking craft. We will use the shop to construct backboard frames before our workshops, so we have more time to design and install hoops with kids.
Something that surprised me the first day: our local shop collects their plane shavings (see image above) for a woman who keeps a chickens. She uses the shavings in her chicken coop.
The Chicago Park District has about 13 woodshops in parks across the city. For anyone in the Chicago area who shares an interest in woodworking, you can find more information about classes and locations on the Chicago Park District’s woodshop facilities webpage.
